Windsurfing Highlights | Engadinwind 2020 – Foil Freestyle World Championship: Eva Wyss & Balz Müller (both SUI) win Gold!

The Foil Freestyle World Championship took place and they‘re considered one of the biggest highlight competitions at the Engadinwind 2020. The nine men and three women were competing in perfect foiling conditions. Balz Müller (SUI), a pioneer in this discipline has been leading the men’s fleet, whilst his girlfriend Eva Wyss took first yesterday in the women’s fleet. Once again, all riders were on the water together in an overall impression session, where the best power move and the best carving move from each foilstyler would count.
Eva Wyss could claim the overall win after a good battle against Anina Heimoz in second and Laura Rudolph in third place. Also, on day two of the Foil Freestyle Championship at Lake Silvaplana, it had been Balz Müller, Steven Van Broeckhoven, Lennart Neubauer and Michael Naef with the most impressive performances. The riders landed culos, konos, burners, funnells and shakas and went smoothly through tripple duckjibes, carving 360s and no handed heli tacks. Swiss freestyler Balz Müller could dominate one more time and claimed the win. The fight for second place had been a tough one, but Steven Van Broeckhoven (BEL) sealed the deal with a nice skopu and a downwind 360 duckjibe combination to count. Michael Naef (SUI) came in third, followed by Lennart Neubauer (GER) in 4th and Antoine Albert (FRA) in 5th.
In addition, The 43rd edition of the Engadin Surf-Kite-Sail Marathon, the oldest still existing windsurf regatta in the world, was held on the weekend: The unique event saw 250 athletes participating from all over the world, kiting, windsurfing or sailing the marathon. The Swiss kite surfers Mike Martin, Bruce Kessler and Simon Basler dominated the event, with newly crowned World Champion Nicolas Goyard (FRA) coming in as the best windsurfer on 8th place.
Yesterday, The iQ FOiL European Championships have started with its first day, but due to difficult weather conditions the next races had to be postponed to the next days of the Engadinwind 2020. Instead, some athletes took part in a freestyle tow-in super session to use Sunday for some fun on the Lake Silvaplana. Stefan de Bell, Lennart Neubauer, Yentel Caers (Point 7), Niclas Nebelung (Duotone/Fanatic), Riccardo Marca (Duotone/Fanatic), Aron Etmon, yesterday’s winner Antoine Albert (Goya/Goya) and Jeremy Plüss joined the show.
