The British Grand Prix saw a welcome return to the paddock for Aaron Slight, as a guest of the LCR Honda Team and Castrol for the UK round of the MotoGP World Championship. On Thursday the former World Superbike rider, along with LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow, unveiled the special Castrol-themed livery sported by the team’s RC213V machine at this event, which continues the iconic colour scheme of the long-lasting partnership between Honda and Castrol in motorcycle racing, of which Slight is a great part.

A motorcycle racing icon of the ’90s, Slight helped carry the flag of the Castrol Honda team in the Superbike World Championship for seven consecutive seasons between 1994 and 2000.

During that period, he put together an impressive tally of 11 race wins, 67 podiums, 8 pole positions and 21 fastest laps on board Castrol-liveried Honda machinery. Those numbers made him one of the most successful racers of that era as well as one of the most iconic riders of the World Superbike Castrol Honda.

After more than twenty years, Slight was reunited with his stunning 1994 World Superbike-spec Honda RC45 machine. This was a trip down to memory lane both for the Kiwi rider and many motorcycle racing fans who had not seen the two together for many a season.

Aaron Slight: “It’s great to pay a visit to the Grand Prix paddock again. I really want to thank Castrol and the LCR Honda team because they made me feel at home and they even had my Honda RC45 machine displayed in team’s hospitality next to their RC213V – absolutely unreal! It’s so good to be part of Castrol and Honda’s successful history together and I’m also happy that fans got to see the bike I raced in the ’90s.”

Donald Smith (Sponsorship Manager Castrol Marketing): “Castrol has a rich heritage with motorcycle racing going back to the Isle of Man TT in 1907 through to the legendary Castrol Honda Superbike era in the 1990s and our long period of activity in Moto GP which sees us still at the forefront today with the LCR Honda MotoGP team.  We are very pleased to reflex this great Castrol heritage during this weekend with the iconic Castrol Honda livery adorning the LCR Team’s  Honda RCV”.
