WHAT: Red Bull Rampage, the most challenging contest in mountain biking, will return on October 27, marking the 12th edition of the storied competition. Touted as the most coveted title in Freeride Mountain Biking and one of the world’s most intense events, 21 of the world’s greatest riders will once again descend upon the other-worldly terrain of Virgin, Utah, as they get to claim their place atop the Red Bull Rampage podium.

This event is supported by Lifeproof, DJI, Utah Sports Commission, BFGoodrich Tires, Camelbak, Go RVing and Polaris RZR.

WHO: The 2017 Red Bull Rampage roster includes 10 Pre-Qualified and 11 Wildcard athletes. The 10 Pre-Qualified riders earned their right to compete by finishing in the top 10 in last year’s event. The remaining 11 riders who make up the Wildcard athletes were chosen and invited based on the following criteria: Past Red Bull Rampage results, results from top bike events, proven skill on a mountain bike and current video segments.

Returning athletes for 2017 include some familiar faces, and some you’re sure to see much more of in the future.

Cam Zink returns for 2017, hoping to repeat his 2010 show stopping ride that put him at the top of the podium. Darren Berrecloth, Brett Rheeder, Graham Agassiz, James Doerfling and Logan Binggeli are all returning Red Bull Rampage veterans hoping to take advantage of the new terrain and put their stamp on the history of the World’s most challenging mountain bike event. Then, of course, there’s the three-way battle for the first hat trick between Brandon Semenuk, Kurt Sorge and Kyle Strait. On top of all that, there is a major threat posed by the up-and-coming local rookies. Ethan Nell and Reed Boggs both live within a crank’s rotation of the Red Bull Rampage terrain in Virgin, Utah.

WHERE: Located roughly 150 miles northeast of Las Vegas, Red Bull Rampage goes down in the rugged desert hills of Virgin, Utah, just outside of Zion National Park. This year, a brand new section of the mountain (rider’s right) will be open for competitors and their teams to dig and create their own lines to ultimately put their skills to the test.

Virgin’s other-worldly landscape lends itself beautifully to Freeride mountain biking as it provides riders with a blank canvas of moldable red dirt and limestone in which they can create their own dream lines. Riders are responsible for crafting lines that showcase their technical skills as well as willingness to conquer obstacles on the mountain such as huge canyon gaps and sheer drops that top out at over 25 meters. Red Bull Rampage’s venue is paradise for Freeride mountain bikers looking to push the limit of their sport and prove the impossible is possible.
