Sébastien Ogier rescues Gasly at pace after being blocked by a herd of goats

Pierre Gasly had a journey to his home race with a difference after being held up by goats en-route to the French Grand Prix and then escorted by a tractor.

But luckily for him countryman and six-time World Rally Champion Sébastien Ogier was on hand to get him to the Circuit Paul Ricard … and fast. Here is all you need to know:

– The countryside surrounding the Circuit Paul Ricard is renowned for its beauty but also for its bad traffic on a race weekend, and Gasly found himself having the same issue after setting off in his Aston Martin Vantage.

– First, his four-litre twin-turbo V8 was blocked up by a herd of goats so a local farmer gave him a lift on board his tractor, travelling at speeds far slower than Gasly has grown accustomed to.

– But Ogier showed up in dramatic fashion, offering a far speedier mode of transport to the iconic Formula One circuit, Gasly in the rare position of being a passenger at pace.

– Of the experience, Gasly said: “This has been an insane experience. It’s the first time in my life I’ve been off-roading and I must say it was really amazing. I was super impressed with the car and with the control being exerted by Séb. It was incredible seeing how hard he could push. It’s completely different to an F1 car. However, being a passenger, I didn’t like not being in control. I had Seb next to me so of course I was completely safe. There’s a lot more drifting, you’re sideways everywhere.”

– Ogier, meanwhile, loved giving his high-profile passenger a lift and admitted he paid close attention to Formula One having previously driven a Red Bull F1 car. “That was two years ago and that was an amazing experience – a dream come true,” he said. “I hope I can get another chance one day.”
