MXGP of Mexico
MXGP 2017 Round 4
Masterful performance from Gajser in MXGP Qualifying.
Repeating his performance from Argentina, Gajser took a dominant win in the qualifying race today at the MXGP of Leon; Mexico.
Gajser made a statement early in the day by setting the fastest time in timed practice and holding the fastest time in two sections of the track. He looked at ease as he navigated his CRF450RW through the tricky Mexican terrain. As the qualifying race began, he had an early challenge from Coldenhoff who took the holeshot. The Slovenian didn’t let this or the changeable conditions fluster him and calmly took the lead in the second lap, where he pulled a gap and led the race from there.
Bobryshev didn’t quite have the start he had hoped for in qualifying but quickly found himself in sixth position within the first lap. After pushing a little too hard by his own admission and changing his line, Bobryshev went down costing him to fall back to eighteenth position. Finding the track conditions challenging, the steely Russian fought his way back in gritty determination to tenth position across the finish line. It was clear that Bobryshev had the speed to be in contention for the podium, so he will be focused on a better performance in tomorrow’s races.
The first MXGP race starts tomorrow at 13:15 local time. |

I felt really good, actually I felt really good all day here and I am enjoying the track. In the qualification race I took a solid start where I was second, I made a quick pass and I made a gap, controlling the race from there. I am looking forward to the race tomorrow and I am enjoying it here. I started enjoying racing again in Argentina as for the first two races of the year I was sick and I found Indonesia strange. So, for me Argentina was the first normal race where I felt good. That is my plan tomorrow, to enjoy it and do my best.

To be honest from this morning I didn’t find the track that good. It was slippery with lots of ruts and it is strange ground. In practice today it was really bumpy with square bumps and then in the qualifying race they put water on slick points so this meant many guys crashed including myself. I pushed and tried to overtake when I was in sixth and crashed then lost time picking up the bike. I then came to tenth from eighteenth. I just hope they do a bit more work on the track tonight as it is really hard to pass and easy to make a mistake, if you want to be a bit aggressive it can cost you. Despite this I am still staying positive, I hope for a better start tomorrow as it makes it easier. I know I have speed for the podium I just need to put everything together.

Another superb performance from Gajser putting in strong and consistent laps. The circuit here is very demanding and has been catching many riders out. There is nothing more to say on Gajser other than we hope he carries this momentum into tomorrow, as he did in Argentina.
One of the riders that was caught out today was Bobryshev who went down early in the race and lost a lot of places. He went to change a line early and lost the front end but the performance he put in from there was excellent. He will aim to keep up the lap times tomorrow as if he can do this, it will put him in contention for the podium. We are pleased to say that both riders were happy with the performance of the Honda CRF450RW at this track in particular as it is at a very high altitude.
