Dovizioso takes last lap thriller in Motegi but Marquez still has narrow title lead.

Marc Marquez became the youngest rider to achieve 100 GP podiums in his career after finishing second at an epic Japanese MotoGP.

On a wet track, the Spaniard was involved in a two-way fight with rival Andrea Dovizioso and after exchanging the lead numerous times it was the Italian who prevailed after a race-winning pass at Turn 11 on the final lap.

It was Dovizioso’s fifth win of the season and he closed the gap on Marquez’s title lead to just 11 points with only three races remaining.

For three-time World Champion Marquez it was his 100th time on the podium in the elite classes, having enjoyed his first one at Donington in 2008 in the 125cc class aged just 15.

After a positive qualifying session for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Pol Espargaro crossed the line in 11th with teammate Bradley Smith in 17th.
