New look for one weekend only at Boston’s iconic baseball stadium.
Boston’s Fenway
stadium is more synonymous with baseball as the current home to the 2018
World Series champions. But this weekend, the site’s hallowed turf has
been transformed into an altogether different sporting backdrop for
round six of the 2018/2019 Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championship.
During
the transformation, scores of workers were filmed in a stunning
timelapse of it’s metamorphosis from baseball field to a downhill ice
track. Here’s all you need to know:
– With the Boston’s home team currently in their off-season, flooring was delicately placed onto Fenway’s grass pitch, before the scaffolding frame for Crashed Ice was put in place.
– In all, a 350-metre
(1,150-feet) track has been laid inside the city’s iconic sporting venue
with a myriad of drops, bumps and sharp corners to ensure yet more
captivating racing in the series.
– Thousands of spectators
are expected to fill the venue for the night racing under Fenway’s
bright lights for two days of action.
– Of the new-for-2019 course, Kyle Croxall,
winner at the last round in Finland, said: “It’s going to be very
technical and I will give it my all.” Meanwhile, junior series leader
Richie ‘Jojo’ Velasquez, added: “It’s right up my alley.
-The thrilling conclusion of the Red Bull Crashed Ice 2018/2019 season kicks off February, 8-9.
