ADELAIDE, SA, Australia (March 2, 2017) – The fifth season of SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks will kick off this weekend in Adelaide, South Australia when 12 identically prepared Stadium SUPER Trucks (SST) will hit the Victoria Park Street Circuit for Rounds 1 through 3 of the year long 2017 SST World Championship.
Similar to the last three season openers in Adelaide, the SSTs will once again race the same 14-turn 2.012-mile (3.219 km) street circuit built for their much different counterparts from SuperCars, however, unlike the SuperCars the trucks will navigate over five 30-inch-tall specially designed ramps located in prime fan-viewing locations throughout the circuit. The crowd-pleasing ramps will catapult the trucks and their drivers nearly 20 feet (six meters) in the air and as much as 150 feet (45 meters) down course much to the delight of the anticipated capacity crowd.
The starting lineup for Friday’s Race 1 was determined from each driver’s fastest lap time in Thursday afternoons qualifying session. Following the twenty-minute session a full field inversion of the times would place the drivers in their proper starting spot for Race No.1; Bill Hynes, from Nazareth, Penn.; would earn the pole position alongside SST newcomer Jeff Hoffman of Phoenix, Arizona making his first ever SST start.
Row two will consist of a pair of South Australian’s Craig Dontas from Adelaide, South Australia, Aus.; and Greg Gartner from Penola, South Australia, Aus.; Making up row three will feature Always Evolving driver Erik Davis from Burbank, Calif.; and Gavin Harlien of Mesa, Arizona who is making his first SST start since 2015.
Row four will consist of Travis Milburn of Adelaide, South Australia, Aus.; making his return to SST racing since debuting at last years Clipsal 500. Next to Milburn will be veteran Aussie racer Paul Morris of Gold Coast, Queensland, Aus.
The fifth row will feature Aberglasslyn, New South Whales, Aus.;
Rounding out the sixth and final row will be 2015 & 2016 SST World Champion Sheldon Creed of El Cajon, Calif.; and today’s Clipsal 500 quick qualifier Matt Brabham of Gold Coast, Queensland, Aus.
SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Race 1 will be contested Friday afternoon at 12:45 P.M. local time.

About SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks
Influenced by the former Mickey Thompson Stadium Off-Road Racing Series, where drivers such as Gordon, Casey Mears and six-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson got their start, Gordon created SST in response to the public’s overwhelming interest in trucks and off-road racing. His plan to re-launch the former stadium series has led to exciting racing on both asphalt and dirt, while producing one of the most extreme forms of action sports today.
Other than the trucks launching 20 feet in the air covering distances more than 150 feet, what sets the SST program apart from other series is the fact that all the SST trucks are identically prepared and delivered to drivers in race-ready condition. Race winners are decided by driver skill rather than individual team engineering and budgets. Drivers and their personal mechanics are assigned specific SST mechanics who together tune and make minor adjustments to the 600-horsepower trucks.
