Sara Andersen sets her own race schedule knowing what goals are to be met, what training is required and who is best to race against in preparation for remaining WMX Rounds 3-5 come end of July.
Currently standing 9th Overall in Women MX World Championship, Sara put in solid performance at Round 2 in Agueda going 5-4 for 4th Overall, week after winning EMX Women Round 3 at Slagelse posting 1-1 for the Overall on the day.
Keen to sustain momentum, Sara raced EMX Women Round 4 at Ruetlingen following weekend, pipping Red Plate holder Steffi Laier for the win in Race 1, then tables turned in Race 2 with Laier taking the Overall with Andersen in 2nd.
Deciding not to compete in EMX Women Final Round this weekend, Sara instead turns her focus racing against her male peers in Denmark the following weekend.
#325: ‘After the GP in Portugal I have been riding one Round of the Swedish Championship, and then just a few small races in Denmark. I am going to ride the Danish Championship with the best danish boys next weekend’.
Having confirmed where she stands in regard to speed against more seasoned Women Racers in WMX, Sara stays confident that race training is on point.
#325: In the first rounds of the World Championship I have showed some good speed and also a few good results. Also my starts have been okay… I think I have been around 5th-7th in every start’.
Quite remarkable achievements given 2019 WMX Series is just Sara’s 2nd full season, finishing 20th Overall in 2017 WMX missing out Opening Round in Indonesia, then cutting result in half finishing 9th Overall in 2018 WMX season.
Game plan aside, Andersen is relentless on improving race skills- nailing starts, maintaining consistent lap-times and believing ‘it’s not over until the chequered’.
#325: ‘The positives about my win at the European Championship is definitely a boost in confidence and also my good starts’.
‘I can’t really compare the track for anything in proportion to the World Championship, but some of the riders are the same and I know I proved to myself that I can beat them in the starts, and also in the rest of the race’.
‘In the long gap between the GP’s I will try to get faster as always. I’ll ride a lot and also work hard. I hope to come back even stronger after the break and I’m feeling good on the bike atm!’
