RED BULL BC ONE WORLD FINAL: THE BEST BREAKERS ARE COMING BACK TO SWITZERLAND
ZURICH, SWITZERLAND – MARCH 1, 2018 – For its 15th edition, Red Bull BC One, a global celebration of Hip Hop, returns to its origins. After the biggest cities on the globe, Zurich will host the biggest one-on-one battle for the first time since its creation on September 29, 2018. With a magnificent view of the snow-capped Alps on the horizon, sixteen of the world’s best breakers will go head-to-head to take the belt at the Hallenstadion in northern Zurich.
The first ever Red Bull BC One World Final was held in 2004 at the legendary cultural centre La Coupole in Biel – it has since become the biggest and most respected B-Boy event in the world. It consistently attracts the best breakers on the planet, giving them the opportunity to develop their talent and perform on a global stage. Since then, the championship has been touring the world with events in São Paulo, New York, Moscow, Paris, Nagoya and, last year, Amsterdam and much more.
30 breakers from 28 countries will meet in Zurich
The 16 spots in the World Final line-up are hard-fought. The jury will select 15 finalists and throughout the year, cyphers will be held in 28 countries, where the national finalists will be determined to represent their country in Zurich. Two days before the World Final, these finalists will be flown to the Last Chance Cypher in Zurich, to take place on September 27, where they will fight for that one coveted spot in the World Final.
This year’s motto is “from the streets to the top of the world”. Red Bull BC One All Star Junior of France already knows what it means to see the world from above. Back in 2004, the French B-Boy participated in the very first Red Bull BC One in Biel. And when he returned to Switzerland, he dared to go to the top of the Matterhorn – with a little help from the mountain rescue helicopter company Air Zermatt. “The feeling of being at 4’400m above sea level is unbelievable. It’s top.” Hong10 from South Korea also knows that feeling very well, being a two-time Red Bull BC One world champion (2006 and 2013). “For a B-Boy, nothing can top the feeling of winning this battle. It will always be a highlight of my career.”
Red Bull BC One Camps: For those who love Hip Hop and Urban Dance
In 2018, seven camps will be held in Spain (March 29-31), Austria (April 12-14), USA (April 19-22), Kazakhstan (April 25-27), Russia (June 1-3), and Switzerland (September 27-29). These three-day events feature jams, workshops, open battles, lectures, exhibitions, screenings and more, celebrating Hip Hop, dance and culture. Each will focus on sharing knowledge, making connections and celebrating the art of breaking. Reflecting the creative landscape of the local scene, the camps will incorporate other elements of Hip Hop, urban dance and creative expression, alongside breaking. They will then culminate in a Red Bull BC One Cypher where the winner will get a chance to battle for a spot at the World Final.
