Kindergarten school teacher by day, one of the world’s best breakers by night.

B-Girl Ayumi will be hoping to teach another lesson on Saturday night, although her audience on this occasion is her Red Bull BC One World Final rivals.

The Japanese dancer, 34, battles Korean Kill in the first round on Saturday, November 4 in Amsterdam’s WesterUnie as the ultimate competition in breaking begins.

Ayumi, from Kyoto, is no stranger to the scene having first started out back in 2004 and is currently a member of the Body Carnival crew.

But unlike many of her fellow finalists she does not break full-time and even credits her kindergarten teaching with helping her dance career.

Before breaking on the biggest stages in the world, Ayumi reveals she was so shy she struggled to speak in front of other people but that dancing has changed her personality.

She said: “For me, dancing is everything. I work part-time teaching little kids but I do a lot of dancing also and I love to do both things.

“I go to work, finish, and then go to parties or training. It is two completely different lives but for me it is the best of two worlds.

“I can’t be shy always, I need to show myself. It helps me be a good teacher.”

One thing is for sure, Ayumi will forever be in the history books as the first B-Girl to ever compete in the Red Bull BC One World Final.

She said: “We have many female dancers coming up and getting into it. It’s an amazing experience for me. I am so excited.”
