PLAYA DE RIBEIRA D’ILHAS, Ericeira / Portugal (Monday, September 24, 2018) – The men’s QS10,000 EDP Billabong Pro Ericeira has been called ON on the opening day of competition in Portugal. Conditions in the three foot range offer decent waves for the opening round of competition and the first ten heats of the second round are on standby for a start later.
“We are stoked to be back in Ericeira and with a good forecast on our hands,” Rob Gunning, European Tour Manager stated. “It’s great to get some of the best surfers on the planet on a world class wave such as Ribeira d’Ilhas, this wave really offers the perfect canvas for surfers to put on a very high performance show. We’re going to have a first long day of competition today to capitalize on the good conditions on hand.”
Stop No. 12 on the European Qualifying Series, this event offers an incredible opportunity for some of the world’s best surfers to rack up precious QS ranking points before the big Hawaiian showdown next month.It will also help decide the WSL wildcard for the upcoming Quiksilver Pro France as the highest French surfer on the Qualifying Series after Ericeira will be awarded that wildcard.
