MULTI-YEAR SGP DEAL FOR PRAGUE
The longest-running FIM Speedway Grand Prix event stays in Prague after rights holders BSI Speedway agreed a new multi-year deal to keep the Czech Republic SGP at Marketa Stadium.

Next year’s event takes place on June 15 and tickets go on sale in mid-October for the Czech Republic’s biggest speedway event.

With nine of the last 14 Prague winners prior to 2018 going on to lift the World Championship in the same season, it’s not just a huge night for the fans – it’s one every rider wants to win.

Marketa Stadium has hosted a World Championship round every year since 1997 and has undergone a fantastic transformation over the years.

Prague is a popular stop on the SGP tour, not just for the racing, but for being one of Europe’s most vibrant and beautiful cities – making it one of the ultimate FIM Speedway Grand Prix city breaks.

BSI Speedway managing director Torben Olsen said: “It’s a real pleasure to continue our longest-standing SGP partnership with Auto Klub Marketa. Everyone involved puts so much work into making the Czech Republic SGP a real success and it has been fantastic to see the event thrive and grow.

“The Czech Republic SGP attracts fans from all over the world and we’re also grateful for the support we receive from the city of Prague in making that possible and delivering a great night of racing.

“A Marketa Stadium win has become a lucky omen for the riders with so many winners going on to become world champion. I look forward to seeing who takes victory – and possibly the world title – in 2019.”

Petr Ondrasik from Auto Klub Marketa said: “AKM is very honoured that we can continue to stage SGPs in Prague.

“We’re also keen to help develop speedway in the Czech Republic. Speedway as a sports sector has a rich and long-lasting tradition here.

“As you can see, there have been a lot of improvements to the stadium during the last few years, for example OLYMP Sports Centre of the Ministry of the Interior bought new seats for the grandstand. Without all this support, the event wouldn’t be such a success.

“We hope all this support from Prague city and governments will continue in the future. At the moment we are working full gas with OLYMP to start reconstruction of the floodlights and also the infield, which will be rebuilt for rugby.

“I can promise we will work hard during the winner to welcome fans from all over the world at the 2019 Czech Republic SGP on June 15 to give them a great experience again.”
