Italian hangs tough on brutal Kandahar downhill course for joint second.

Dominik Paris proved his worth ahead of February’s Winter Games in PyeongChang by grabbing a gutsy podium in the Garmisch downhill behind Beat Feuz.

The Italian dug deep on the punishing Kandahar course to join Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr in joint second place behind the bullish Swiss FIS World Cup downhill leader.



Dominik Paris fact file

1) The Merano native now has 22 FIS World Cup podiums to his name.

2) The 28-year-old will be looking to break his Winter Games duck in South Korea after no medals in Sochi or Vancouver.

3) Paris secured downhill silver at the 2013 World Championships in Schladming behind Aksel Lund Svindal.

4) Did you know? After leaving school early, he worked as a bricklayer and a herdsman before focusing on his skiing.

5) Did you also know? He is the lead singer of a death metal band called 5 Full Power.
