Among the most important Peruvian pilots in the present stage is Alexis Hernández, who runs in the quad category and finished in second place. The Peruvian athlete left behind the Argentine Pablo Copetti and the Russian Sergei Kariakin, champion in the 2017 edition.
Hernández said, “I went out relaxed. I pushed when I could, accelerated where I had a chance and slowed down whenever it was necessary. Let’s go Peru!
On the other hand, Peruvians Juan Carlos Uribe and Javier Uribe won the first place in the SxS category at this stage. Thanks to this, the Ica men managed to increase the advantage they have over the vehicle that runs second in the general standings of the 2018 Dakar.

In today’s route the city of Ica was crossed, a place of great importance in Peru for the pre-Columbian civilizations that originated there and that left a cultural heritage that lasts until our times. To the south of the town is the natural oasis of La Huacachina, where visitors connected with nature and enjoyed unique landscapes in the world.
In Ica you can practice adventure sports thanks to the high dunes that are found in the area. One of them is sandboarding, where adventurers can slide downhill living an unforgettable experience full of adrenaline. Also, visitors can ride in bogies, imitating what the drivers of the Dakar Rally live, the most demanding race in the world that chose Peru as a starting point this year.

The Ica region is also the where the Paracas civilization settled or the mystical Nasca Lines, and it shelters the largest producers of pisco, the national drink of Peru. Its wineries are part of the well-known “Ruta del Pisco”, and are located in its extensive countryside, bathed in sunshine all year round, which favors the cultivation of grapes of different varieties
