F1 driver meets women’s national curling team ahead of Russian GP.
Daniil Kvyat met with Russian athletes Anna Sidorova, Margarita Fomina, Kira Yezekh and Alexandra Rayeva at the Sochi Olympic Park on Wednesday, trying his hand as a curling player.
The Scuderia Toro Rosso driver’s visit coincided with his 23rd birthday. It also preceded the Grand Prix of Russia that takes place this coming weekend on the Sochi circuit.
In 2015, he played hockey ahead of the event and in 2016, he gave bobsleigh a try.
This year, Kvyat stepped on ice again to have a go at curling, yet another Winter Olympic discipline. He was joined under the Bolshoy Ice Dome by his personal coach Pyry Salmela.
“Russia is traditionally strong in ice sports, and it’s become a good tradition for me to set my foot on ice shortly before the Grand Prix of Russia,” said Kvyat.
“I’m happy I’ve gained this new experience and thankful to girls from the national curling team, who gave me the opportunity to learn the ropes of this extraordinary kind of sports.”
