Indoor sky diver stars alongside solo winner Kyra Poh in booming sport.

Maja Kuczyńska might have missed out on winning the solo freestyle title at the 2018 Wind Games in Spain, however she is still at the forefront of a fast growing global sport.

The 18-year-old Pole, who has dazzled the world with projects like Bigger Than the Sky, had to make do with bronze in the solo freestyle behind Singapore’s 15-year-old Kyra Poh – who retained her title.

The competitors perform in a vertical wind tunnel fuelled by high-power wind turbines that began to catch on in the 1980s when more training facilities were needed worldwide for freefall simulation.

Girona’s WINDOOR tunnel is the only recreational one in Spain, however others are planned while most other European countries also possess one.

Kuczyńska explained: “I used to do gymnastics. I translate that now into what I can do in the tunnel. When I train for competitions, I get nervous excitement and always happiness in there too.”
