Right on time for Carlos Sainz’s home race, McLaren found top form, carrying out the two fastest pit stops not only of the Spanish GP but of the season so far. Local favorite Sainz was equipped with new tires in 2.07 seconds on Lap 24, while his team-mate Lando Norris was sent on his way two laps later in 2.14 seconds.
McLaren undercut the fastest stop of the season so far, the 2.15 seconds set by Red Bull Racing in the Chinese GP. Williams were only one hundredth off the previous record, changing Robert Kubica’s tires in 2.16 seconds.
“A good result on home soil,” said Sainz who came home eighth on the Circuit de Catalunya. “Congratulations to everyone in the team for getting a points finish today, because it was not an easy race for us. It was one of those well-fought points finishes.”
Like most of the other teams, McLaren opted for a two-stop strategy due to heavy tire wear. There were 37 pit stops in total this afternoon in Barcelona. Twenty-one of them took less than three seconds, which indicates an excellent all-round performance by the crews. https://inmotion.dhl/en/formula-1/fas…
