Mercedes made it five one-two victories in the first five races of the season as they once again locked out the opposition in the Spanish GP. Lewis Hamilton celebrated a brilliant victory in Barcelona, the foundations of which were laid when he overtook pole-sitter and team-mate Valtteri Bottas.
With this third win of the season, Hamilton has returned to the top of the championship table. What’s more, the Brit clocked the DHL Fastest Lap for the first time this season to secure the extra point. Hamilton set a time of 1:18.492 on the 54th lap, around two-tenths faster than Bottas.
“When the lights went out, my initial getaway was quite good and we were very close all the way down into Turn 1. I think the Ferrari was alongside us at one point too, so it was a great battle and also a decisive moment in the race”, said Hamilton. “After that I just had to keep my head down and focus on trying to deliver each lap.”
Charles Leclerc continues to lead the 2019 DHL Fastest Lap Award with two Sunday-best times. Hamilton, Bottas and Pierre Gasly each have one to their account. https://inmotion.dhl/en/formula-1/fas…
