Danish Castle becomes obstacle playground for the ultra-fit

1200 participants navigate moats and mazes on grounds of Gothic Castle.

A stunning obstacle race took place on Sunday near Kværndrup,  Denmark, as participants navigated through medieval moats and hedge mazes, with Egeskov Castle as the crowning centerpiece.

Here’s all you need to know:

– 1200 participants took part in Red Bull Conquer the Castle in both Amateur and Elite divisions.

– In the elite field, 32 males and 32 females competed in a knock out format where the fastest 2 in each heat advanced to the next round until only 4 athletes remain (4 men and 4 women).

-Red Bull Conquer the Castle commenced with 21 obstacles and for each final round a new obstacle was added to challenge the participants.

-Nikolaj Dam of Denmark, won the men’s final ahead of Thibault Debusschere from Belgium. Only 10 seconds separated the two competitors.

-Julie Wahr-Hansen from Norway won the female elite followed by Ida Mathilde Steensgaard of Denmark in second.

-Egeskov Castle was first erected by Frands Brockenhuus in 1554

-The Castle contains a fuchsia garden, considered one of the largest in Europe, containing 104 different species, and features four hedge mazes.

1. Nikolaj Dam, 2. Thibault Debusschere, 3. Jonas Drescher.

Elite Women’s Results:

1. Julie Wahr-Hansen, 2. Ida Mathilde Steensgaard, 3. Margrethe Langhoff Thuesen.
