Cyclists from 25 countries competing in Carpathian MTB Epic 2018: Swiss Ariane Lüthi and Andras Parti (HUN) celebrate Prologue stage victory in Romania

Carpathian MTB Epic – UCI Race | Prologue – Cross Country Time Trail | Epic MTB Stage Race in the Land of Dracula

The second edition of the Carpathian MTB Epic (UCI ranked) kicked off with the Prologue, a 10-km cross-country time trial race with 60% single-track and 30% wild mountain roads & 550m of climbing. With start and finish set at the Race Village at Cheile Gradistei-Fundata, the results of the race will be used to determine the order of the racers at the start line for the 1st stage.

Today’s winner in the women category was Ariane Lüthi (SUI), followed by Jovana Crnogorac (SRB) and Katazina Sosna (LTU) The men category was a thrilling one and the first four cyclists were only divided by 9 seconds. In the end Andras Parti from Hungary won the race, ahead of Peeter Pruus (EST) and Martin Haring (SVK). The Wild – Rugged and Epic Carpathian MTB Epic Stage race will continue tomorrow with stage 1 – stage 1 is the Queen stage with 60 km of distance and 2,700 m of climbing; the highest point of the day is Saja Strunca (1909 m).




The Carpathian MTB Epic 2018 is the ultimate mountain bike adventure in the Land of Dracula. The 2nd edition of this wild and rugged solo-format mountain bike event is Romania’s first multi-stage event to be registered in the international calendar of the UCI. It will be held from August 16 to 19, 2018, at Cheile Gradistei-Fundata, an Olympic-level resort in the Transylvanian Alps. 180 kilometres of pure mountain biking and 8,500 metres of pure climbing on rugged trails, never explored by riders, all traversing natural parks and wild regions unique in Europe: The 4-day stage race adventure through the wild Carpathian Mountains in Romania is set to be an exciting and life changing experience. 131 Riders from 25 countries will compete in the multistage event Carpathian MTB Epic 2018! MTB stars, international and national champions like Ariane Lüthi (SUI) and Frans Claes (BEL) are eager to conquer Carpathian mountains.
