Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP‘s Maverick Viñales and Valentino Rossi have completed Free Practice 1 of the Grand Prix of Styria this morning, ending the session in 9th and 17th position respectively.
Perfectly sunny weather conditions welcomed the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team back to the Spielberg circuit. Maverick Viñales and Valentino Rossi started preparations for the Grand Prix of Styria with a productive session and finished FP1 in 9th and 17th place respectively.
Viñales took his YZR-M1 for a spin again on Austrian soil. He spent the available 45 minutes working on his bike‘s setting and entered the top 3 midway through. Though he didn‘t put in a mini time-attack at the end of FP1, he still had a top-10 finish. His 1‘24.324s, set on lap 11/22, earned him 9th place, 0.465s from first.
Rossi also got a lot of work done in the morning practice. He followed the same strategy as his team-mate, only concerning himself with his M1‘s set-up, working on his pace with used tyres. His best time, a 1‘24.699s set on lap 7/23 wasn‘t enough for him to stay in the top 10. He wrapped up the session in 17th position, 0.840s from the top.

![]() | Position: 9th | Best lap time: 1’24.324 (+0.465) | Laps: 22 We’ve tried many things this morning and found some positive points. I’m quite happy, because straight away I was fast, so I was in the top 3 again. I think that we can be a little bit faster, because we still have a few more areas of improvement to explore. Anyway, the feelings are already very positive, and the bike is working well. So, I can’t wait for FP2 to try some new things and especially to do a time attack to set a good lap time. |
