Fresh from the Italian Grand Prix, the LCR Honda MotoGP Team get the chance to quickly make amends this week as they head to the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit in north-western Spain. For the seventh round of the championship the Team Honda RCV’s will be fully branded in Rizoma colours (www.rizoma.it).
Cal Crutchlow tested his Honda RC213V at the track just over two weeks ago, and with some positive results he is hopeful of regaining his rightful place amongst the front-runners this weekend. The track has been significantly modified since last year’s event, with the main change being the new chicane added out of turn 13.
The character of much of the track remains the same however, with long corners challenging the LCR Honda technicians to come up with solutions to the problems created by racing with surface temperatures over the 50°C mark.
“All the talk this weekend is about the chicane, and I don’t understand the riders that are complaining about it, we chose it! We decided that last year’s chicane wasn’t safe enough so we moved it back. We’ve just got to deal with the situation. It’s a tough race here because the tyres drop so much with the long radius corners. At the test the riders who did long runs dropped four seconds by the end of their simulations, so it’s going to be a difficult race to manage”.
