Carpathian MTB Epic – UCI Race – Stage 2 – toughest stage | New Overall Women Leader
At today’s 2nd Stage, the cyclists are riding 60 km and face the largest elevation gain, about 3,300 m, and 2 very technical descents. It is considered the toughest stage of this edition. The track includes: trails & single track in 40%; forest roads and mountain trails – 50%; asphalt – 10%. Start and end of this stage is like every day the Cheile Grădiștei-Fundata Arena.
The Men’s overall leader Peeter Pruus from Estonia defended his yellow leader jersey with another stage win today. Second came in the toughest contender from Czech, Marek Rauchfuss. The podium was completed by Frans Claes from Belgium.
In the Women’s UCI category, the Overall leader in the red jersey, Ariane Luethi from Switzerland came in second. It was the first stage win for Serbia’s Jovana Crnogorac, she crossed the finish line first with a massive gap to Ariane and is now the new Overall leader with just 14 seconds ahead of Ariane Luethi. Third came in Lejla Tanovic (BIH). Todays decisive final stage 3 challenges the riders with 60 km of distance and 2,500 m of climbing, passing the Piatra Craiului Mountains (2238 m).
