Business magnate Sir Richard Branson and watersport icon Don Montague feature in the documentary “Chapter One: The Kiteboarding Legacy Begins” to be unveiled in San Francisco on September 15.

The globe-hopping film features a series of elite kiteboarders together with the sport’s luminaries such as Sir Richard Branson and Bay Area legend Don Montague.

Eyeforce founders Bob van de Gronde and Arthur Neumeier conceived the project three years ago as the definitive kiteboarding film.

Their ambition stretched to a number of spectacular locations around the world including Northern Ireland’s stormy coast, Hawaii’s huge waves, Brazilian lagoons and South Africa’s challenging seas.

Its heart, though, is in San Francisco with the American city a central hub for the sport dubbed the ‘new golf’.

Montague, who aims to break the world speed record for sailing between LA and Hawaii in the near future, features in the film with his revolutionary new kiteboat seen travelling under the Golden Gate Bridge.

Elsewhere in the documentary, respected storm chaser Ruben Lenten’s battle with an aggressive tumour detected halfway through filming became the heart of the film.

Van de Gronde said, “Kiteboarding is a truly unique sport that unites people from so many countries and backgrounds.

“We’re delighted to be able to share the culmination of the Chapter One project in a city as unique as the sport itself.”

Venture capitalist Bill Tai reached out to Branson so that the filmmakers could have access to him and his friends on the entrepreneur’s exclusive Necker Island.

He added, “Years from now, people will remember Chapter One as the film that definitively captured the people, energy and innovation that defined the sport of kiteboarding at its formation.”
