Jason Baker Dream Traxx downunder 2011 Australia SuperX
In 2011 Jason Baker Dream Traxx built NZ’s first ever SuperX tracks downunder for Australia SuperX at North Harbour, New Zealand.
Watching Jason work with his crew, laying foundation sheets of ply, shifting dirt, marking and carving the track from locally sourced soil, through to actual track walk of riders and then show-time SuperX event, all within one week- was an experience not forgotten.
2 Australia SuperX Rounds followed, Hamilton and Dunedin, with pick North Island Rounds as epic events. More so, was capturing Jason at work, sorting out all that it takes to put together a SuperX track for Riders, promoters, fans in NZ and across the ditch.
Long-time passing now, Jason heads Dream Traxx, full-time track builder business in USA with latest pride of place being Red Bull Straight Rhythm track in October 2018.
Hanging onto a dream, 7 years ago, Jason describes what building SX tracks means to him, spoken in between preparation of SX track at North Harbour Stadium, Round 4 Australia SX Series 2011.
‘When I had to give up riding I didn’t want to leave the sport and track building was an easy stepping stone for me. I had a track at my home, the top guys rode there all the time- James, Tim, Chad- I’d do a little tune up for them, help them out and guys started to take notice of that’.
‘I always dream big. I never let myself fall short as far as dreams go. As a track builder I want to be the best. We’ve had more dirt this year and have been able to build some sweet tracks running around 40 seconds lap time. That was one of the big things from last year to get the lap time up’.
‘I’ve had a lot of positive feedback from the riders on the tracks, the different jumps and rhythm sections. Trying to help the flow of the track and help the riders really enjoy it, that is what we pride oursleves in achieving the most’.
Makes for some exciting watch-time come Australia’s S-X Open at Mt Smart Stadium, November 24th, 2018.
