Rene Hofer took his KTM Junior Team 250 SX-F to 5th position overall in spite of a left arm muscle complaint at Teutschenthal and the Grand Prix of Germany. The EMX250 European Championship rookie currently holds 4th place in the standings.

The sixth round of eight in the 2019 Grand Prix ‘feeder series’ meant the brightest and best of the European championship were again on the MXGP support card at Teutschenthal. The narrow German hard-pack was bumpy and rutted and occasionally slippery due to the watering in hot conditions to contain the dust.

Austrian star Rene Hofer came into the races nursing a weak left arm due to a small crash in Free Practice but still determined for a strong result. He posted the 3rd fastest lap-time in both Practice sessions and during the first moto on Saturday worked his way to 8th position after a start that saw him outside the top ten. The seventeen year old was higher up the order at the beginning of the second moto. He made a strong and measured pass on Raivo Dankers for 5th and almost overtook Jeremy Sydow for 4th at the end.

Rene Hofer: “I wasn’t too happy with the first moto because I had a really bad start and the track was difficult for passing. I had a lot of fights! I could make my way to eighth place. I did better at the start in the second moto and reached fifth. At the end there were a lot of backmarkers and it was really tough: I couldn’t make the pass on Sydow. Overall my riding was good but we still need to work on my starts. We have a bit of a break now but two sandy ADAC German Championship races coming up and a trip to Belgium to get prepared.”

After three consecutive rounds EMX250 now breaks while the FIM Motocross World Championship heads overseas and to Asia. The penultimate event in the series will take place in the sand of Lommel for the Grand Prix of Belgium on August 4th.
